Frequently Asked Questions

What results can I expect and how soon?

GCA is focused on empowering cellists with practice skills as well as technical skills and musical wisdom. The rate of growth depends on you! You should intend to practice daily, engage with courses and lessons, and attend group classes as often as possible.

Transformation often looks like:

  • improved-to-masterful ability to create & play backup parts and maintain chop and rhythm grooves

  • improved-to-masterful ability to improvise a cello solo or a backup part

  • improved-to-masterful mindset and learning/practice skills

  • deepened comfort with music theory as applied in multiple styles like: Bluegrass, Old-Time, Celtic, blues/jazz, folk, Scandinavian, and other world musics

  • improved-to-masterful command of style elements in various musical styles

  • improved-to-masterful command of cello chords

  • dramatically increased confidence in rhythm & groove, improvisation, and jamming

  • community support and social momentum

Cellist-members who engage and practice report eye-opening and life-changing developments after 3 to 6 months. Even greater results after 12 months. Many choose to maintain their enrollment for multiple years because of the community support and ongoing addition of new lessons and resources.

We continue to grow our support of your musicianship because we’re trying to change the world. And we want you to be a part of it!

What skill level is expected for me to join and succeed?

GCA is ideal for intermediate to advanced cellists. Here are a few helpful indicators: Are you…

  • comfortable shifting around between 1st and 5th positions?

  • comfortable with scales and arpeggios in C, G, D, A, F?

  • familiar with spiccato bowing? Simple double stops?

  • Have you played ANY of J.S. Bach Suites for solo cello, with at least mild success? Completed Suzuki book 3?

If you answered “yes” to two or more of these, then you should be ready for Groove Cello Academy! Still unsure? Email us at hello @ groovecelloacademy.com and we’ll help you out!

Then “graduate” to Groove Cello Academy once you’re ready!
